Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Learning

I have found several advantages and disadvantages for online learning, such as the class that was conducted online. I did not get an opportunity to attend that session due to the fact that my internet was not working at the time. Therefore we have run into our first disadvantage. Also, problems could arise with the website loading, and also with internet connection losing service. However, I have found that there are also some advantages to online learning. An obvious advantage would be not having to physically be present in class. This is most times, a much more convenient option for people.

End of the Semester

As we are approaching this end of this semester and thus the end of EDMS 550, I have spent some time reflecting on my time in this class. I have thoroughly enojoyed Technology and Topics and feel that I have learned a lot of valuable information. I had never heard of websites such as glogster and prezi, and had definitely never used software such as Kompozer and Magix. I would have loved to learn a little more about Magix, and have gone more in depth with editing videos. I am very happy with how my video turned out, however I would have loved to have added more special effects to it. I was just too scared of messing it up (which I did even WITHOUT going too in depth)!

Online Presentation Tools

Today in class we learned about different presentation tools such as prezi and glogster. I had never heard of any of these online tools prior to this class and find them to be a great alternative to powerpoint (which is the only presentation tool I've ever used). I like how they are available online and can be saved and accessed online, because I cannot even begin to count the number of times I've encountered problems trying to use powerpoint for a class project. Prezi especially seems to offer such a variety of option and I wish I had known about it earlier. I messed around a little on glogster today in an attempt to do my presentation on the legal brief and find that its the perfect tool for a project where you want to convey pretty basic information. Prezi seems like a better option for more in depth projects and I can't wait to try it out for my lesson plan!
